Frequently Asked Questions
A few questions people often ask about their Me’Zuzah, gathered for the moments when you want to understand a little more.
Wisdom & Guidance
A mezuzah belongs on the doorpost of every living space in the home, not only the front door. That includes bedrooms, the kitchen, the living room, and the dining room. It is not placed on the doors of bathrooms or small closets.
Ordinarily, if the next occupant is Jewish, it is a kindness to leave the mezuzot in place for them. But because this Me’Zuzah is a family heirloom of Kotel stone, meant to be passed down l’dor vador, you may take it with you. We recommend leaving a standard kosher mezuzah for the new owners so the home is not left without one.
The stone is enduring, but the parchment inside is organic and sensitive to age and weather. Halacha recommends having mezuzah scrolls checked by a certified scribe, or Sofer, twice every seven years. This is to confirm that the letters remain intact and the scroll remains kosher. Confidence on the frequency: high based on the current booklet; because this is halachic guidance, I would still have the final website copy reviewed by your rabbinic authority before publication.
Yes. In halacha, women are fully obligated in the mitzvah of mezuzah, just as men are. A woman may recite the blessing and affix the mezuzah on behalf of her household. Throughout history, Jewish women have often been the ones to see to the spiritual life of the home.
In some traditions, a mezuzah is placed at an angle, while in others it stands vertically. Because of its size and distinctive shape, this Me’Zuzah must be installed vertically rather than tilted. Use the screws and screwdriver included in the box to secure the mounting plate to your doorpost. The plate is already attached to the back of the stone, so the stone itself should never be drilled.
Yes. A workplace is a kind of second home, where we spend a great deal of our lives. A mezuzah on your office door brings Jerusalem into your working hours and quietly reminds you to conduct your affairs with integrity and faith.
A mezuzah is one of the most meaningful gifts in Jewish tradition. You are not simply giving an object; you are giving a blessing for a new couple or a new home. Because this Me’Zuzah is made from Kotel Plaza stone, it becomes an especially meaningful foundation stone for a new family.
The mezuzah belongs to every Jew, whatever their level of observance. It is a mark of identity and belonging. Whether you pray each day or simply feel the pull of your heritage, this stone is a quiet reminder of where you come from.
We treat what is inside with the same care as what is outside. Your Me’Zuzah comes with a Mehudar Klaf, sourced in Jerusalem and handwritten by a certified scribe on authentic parchment. It is inspected for halachic soundness and meets a higher standard of craftsmanship and observance.
Yes. The stone for this collection was reclaimed during the 2016 Western Wall Plaza renovation. Once this reserve is used, we cannot make more from this material. That is what makes every Me’Zuzah part of a finite piece of history. Confidence on the 2016 date: high based on the current booklet; verify against provenance documentation before final publication.
It is placed on the right as you enter because, in Jewish tradition, the right side is associated with kindness, Chessed, and strength. It is usually the side we lead with as we step into a room.
Care & Authenticity
The natural stone is strong, but it should be cared for gently. Dust it with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners, oils, and water, as the stone is porous and can absorb them.
The stone itself is naturally weather-resistant. The greater concern is the Klaf inside. If you place your Me’Zuzah on an exterior door, choose a location sheltered from direct rain. For additional protection, speak with us about options for protecting the scroll within the stone. I slightly prefer this wording to the booklet's current “water-tight casing” promise unless you know that is a service you definitely offer.
Because it should. Your Me’Zuzah is not a factory casting. It is hand-shaped from natural stone reclaimed from the Kotel Plaza. The veins, textures, markings, and variations in color are the natural fingerprints of the stone. They are not flaws. They are the proof that your piece is one of a kind. No two Me’Zuzahs are alike.
In Judaism, holiness comes from distinctiveness and purpose. This stone is set apart by its history, having stood among the millions who came to pray at the Western Wall, and by its new purpose: holding the words of the Torah at the threshold of a Jewish home. Each Me’Zuzah is individually numbered. The number it carries belongs to that piece alone.
Your Me’Zuzah arrives with its Mehudar Klaf sourced in Jerusalem, Certificate of Authenticity, kippah, and everything needed for installation. The mahogany presentation box was designed to remain part of your home. Its lid becomes a family photo frame, while a velvet-lined tray beneath holds jewelry and keepsakes.
No. Each is shaped from natural reclaimed stone, and its veins, texture, color, crevices, and markings are preserved rather than hidden. Every Me’Zuzah is individually shaped and numbered, so the piece you choose is uniquely yours.
